Caboplast had the honor of welcoming the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Cape Verde, Dr. Gilberto Silva, to its facilities. The purpose of the visit was to present the innovations and good practices adopted by the company in the field of recycling, especially in the reuse of post-production waste to make new plastic products.
During the visit, the Minister had the opportunity to take a close look at the industrial recycling process, which makes it possible to incorporate up to 30% of recycled waste in plastic bags used in super and mini-markets, and 50% in garbage bags. This circular economy model not only reduces waste, but also reinforces Caboplast's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.
In addition, Caboplast has presented a proposal to the government: the standardization of plastic bags in larger sizes to replace the variety currently sold. This measure aims to minimize the production of different types of plastic, contributing directly to the reduction of plastic environmental pollution.
An important point discussed during the visit was the urgent need for environmental awareness and education. Although plastic is often cited as one of the biggest polluters of the environment, the real challenge lies in the improper disposal of waste. It is essential that the population is educated about correct sorting and disposal practices, since any material, be it plastic, paper or glass, can cause damage to the environment when disposed of irresponsibly.
“Transformation begins with education. Only with a population that is aware of the impact of its actions on the environment can we build a more sustainable future, starting with our Cidade da Praia,” said Chady Hojeige, Director of Caboplast.
The engagement of the government and the private sector in concrete actions such as these reflects the search for effective solutions to combat plastic pollution and strengthen the green economy in Cape Verde. The visit reaffirms our joint commitment to building a more sustainable future for the country.
We thank the Minister for his visit and for the opportunity to share our vision and projects up close, certain that together we can achieve great progress towards sustainability and the well-being of our population.
A factory specializing in plástic and hygiene products, the company adopts recycling pratices to minimize its environmental impact. Constantly evolving, looking for ways to resuse waste meterials.
